An English Education Degree Helps You write the future in the hearts of next generation

Your new English Secondary Education major at Mississippi College prepares you for a successful professional career, using your talents and abilities in service to God and others as a secondary, English teacher. You not only master English Language Arts content, but also evaluate, select, and plan instructional strategies and materials to be used in middle school and high school language arts classrooms. You gain classroom teaching experience in local public schools and craft your own 5-day thematic units, aligned to the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards. Upon graduation and passage of required Praxis II exams, you are awarded a 7-12 English teaching license from the state of Mississippi.

Olivia Cote received her BA in English from ±«Óătvand went on to teach English at Murrah High School and the Michelle Obama Early College High School at Tougaloo College as its founding English teacher. She served on Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba’s Education Transition Committee and wrote curriculum for Jackson Public Schools. Olivia earned a Master’s from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and is currently employed as an Interventionist at Jim Hill, while pursuing her Ed.D. at the University of Southern Mississippi.
