Mutual Exclusion Registration Error
Within the undergraduate core science requirements, certain course combinations are not permitted. If a student has already completed one course in an unapproved combination and attempts to register for the other, BannerWeb will display a “Mutual Exclusion with…” error.
In some academic programs, these combinations may be necessary. An advisor can determine that an override is appropriate and send a request to registrar@mc.edu with the student's name, ±«ÓătvID, CRN, and course number. The student should be copied on the email. The registrar’s office will then process the override directly.
Online Undergraduate Courses
Many programs offer traditional (in-person) and online course options. To ensure that online students can access the classes they need, some departments limit access to specific online courses to students in fully online programs.
If you're not in an online program and try to register for a course that’s restricted, you’ll see a “Student Attribute Restriction” error in BannerWeb. If you receive this error, contact the department offering the course to ask if an override is possible based on your situation. Keep in mind that most departments will open up remaining spots in online classes to all students about two weeks before the course starts.
Prerequisites
A prerequisite is a course or requirement that must be completed before (or at the same time as) another class. For example, undergraduate students must complete or be enrolled in ENG 101 before they can register for ENG 102.
If a student tries to register for a course without meeting the listed prerequisites, BannerWeb will block their registration and display the message: “You have not met the prerequisite (s) to register for this class.” To register, students must meet all the listed prerequisites.
If students think the message is received in error, start by checking the Course Descriptions section of the Academic Catalog to see what the prerequisites are for the course.
- If you believe you’ve met them and still received the error, contact the registrar's office to review your record.
- If you haven’t met the prerequisite but want to request special permission to take the course, contact the department offering the course to ask about an override.
