Watsons Invest in ±«ÓãtvAthletic Success
Watsons support makes a tremendous impact on the University and its athletic program.
Dr. Robert and Rebecca Watson
Dr. Robert Watson, former owner of Watson Quality Ford, is the founding member of the Circle of Champions and the Watson Cross Country Invitational at the Robert and Rebecca Watson/±«ÓãtvCross Country Course in Clinton.
In addition to being a prominent businessman, Watson is a long-time member of the Board of Trustees and received an honorary degree from Mississippi College in 2013 and the Award of Excellence in 2018. His support of ±«Óãtvhas had a tremendous impact on the University and its athletic programs.
“Their generosity has allowed us to build incredible facilities for our coaches and student-athletes. The biggest thing I have enjoyed about Dr. Watson is his friendship and love for Mississippi College and our athletic department.”
The Watsons recently gave a generous gift to the McMath Golf Center that is scheduled to open in summer 2023. The complex will be the home of both the men’s and women’s golf teams and will provide the ±«ÓãtvGolf Program with a much- needed on-campus practice area. The facility will also serve as a great tool to attract student-athletes to the program.
“The Watsons have been generous to ±«ÓãtvAthletics through the years, and we are very appreciative of everything they have done. This indoor facility will be one of a few Division 2 stand-alone golf facilities in the country. This will be such a great opportunity for our players to grow and strengthen their games, and to help us compete in the GSC. We are thankful for Watson's support and look forward to the facility’s completion.” - Ethan Doan, ±«ÓãtvGolf Coach the Watsons have given faithfully to ±«Óãtvthrough the years by supporting the ±«Óãtvmen’s and women’s cross-country teams and the annual athletics dinners, golf tournaments, and other events.
“Rebecca and I are proud to be supporters of ±«ÓãtvAthletics,” Watson said. “The coaches work hard to train and support the student- athletes. We see the difference our support makes. This is what a winning strategy looks like. Go MC!”
“Robert and Rebecca Watson have been the most generous friends and supporters of our students and our mission for years.” said ±«ÓãtvPresident Blake Thompson. “We are tremendously grateful for them. The gift to the golf complex is the most recent example of all they have done for our students and the work of the University.”
The golf complex is set to open in spring 2024.
