Students Travel to Mississippi College for Spring Preview Day

About 200 prospective students from across the Southeast and other regions of the USA will travel to Mississippi College for Spring Preview Day.

On March 30, visitors can meet President Blake Thompson, get to know faculty and staff, while learning about life on the Clinton campus. In addition, students can attend classes, discover dozens of ±«Óătvorganizations, and find out about financial aid. There’s time that Saturday to drink coffee, make new friends and attend ±«ÓătvChoctaws baseball & softball games.

Preview Day activities begin with 8:30 a.m. registration at the B.C. Rogers Student Center. Michael Wright, director of freshman recruitment, will lead a student panel discussion shortly after 9 a.m. at Anderson Hall. Besides Dr. Thompson, other speakers will include Jim Turcotte, vice president for enrollment services and dean of students.

There will be a faculty panel discussion at 10:30 a.m. with professors Stephanie Carmicle (biology), Patrick Connelly (history), Billy Morehead (accounting) and Cindy Melton, dean of the School of Education.

Parents will serve on their own panel discussion group at the same time in Anderson Hall.

Students and parents are invited to attend an academic marketplace at Alumni Gym to get loads of information about departments at the Baptist-affiliated university. That event begins at 11:30 a.m.

Other highlights range from campus tours to lunch. There’s a trip to the Cadaver Lab in the Lee Royce Medical Science Building plus the chance to cheer for the Choctaws at sporting events.

The ±«Óătvbaseball team battles the Montevallo Falcons in a Saturday doubleheader. Games at Frierson Field are set for 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The ±«ÓătvLady Choctaws face the Montevallo Falcons in contests at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the university’s Softball Complex.

A visit to Providence Hill Farm is also booked (starting at 12:30 p.m.) for students interested in joining the ±«ÓătvChoctaws equestrian, archery, bass fishing and clay shooting teams.

Director of admissions Kyle Brantley says he expects 200 students plus another 300 family members will attend the 2019 Spring Preview Day. Some families are traveling from as far away as Ohio, Minnesota and West Virginia.
