Students at Mississippi College Spread the Gospel on Summer Mission Trips
Sharing the love of Jesus with people in 10 countries will be the goal of Mississippi College students on upcoming summer mission trips.
Baptist Student Union member Caroline Simpson is thrilled to get the opportunity to share the Gospel once again in the Czech Republic. The 19-year-old freshman from Clinton will work with teens at a children’s home for six weeks and take part in a sports camp.
Caroline visited the Czech Republic last year with a group sponsored by First Baptist Church Clinton. She fell in love with the people in Southern Europe. “God created a strong desire in my heart to go back and continue in the relationships that I built so that I might glorify Him and point those kids to Christ.”
A social work major, Simpson will be among 16 ±«Óătvstudents signed up for 2019 summer mission trips. Baptist Student Union leaders and others prayed for the students at a February 26 campus banquet.
The Mississippian feels “unbelievably lucky” the Gospel was presented to her at a young age. “I want to work with people who haven’t been as fortunate as me.”
Mississippi College sophomore Rachel Reed, 19, of Oxford will revisit Mexico to tell students about Jesus, teach English and immerse herself in interpreter training. “I love their culture and getting to serve the people there and share the Gospel. They have become people that are very near to my heart.”
A future high school math teacher, Rachel came away refreshed and blessed at Tuesday night’s dinner. “The banquet was such a sweet time of prayer and support. I am very thankful to the BSU for that.”
The Baptist Student Union coordinates fundraising events and service opportunities to raise funds to cover mission trip expenses. International summer missionaries are also eligible for scholarships of up to $800. Trips lasting up to eight weeks open doors for life-changing experiences.
“Year after year, we hear stories of people hearing the name and message of Jesus for the first time,” says BSU director Mandy Phillips. “We see the lives of individuals and communities changed.”
This summer, ±«Óătvstudents will also pursue missions in the inner city of Houston, Texas, travel to South Asia, Canada, Boston and Florida. Whether they embark on youth ministries or medical missions, the students “will have incredible platforms to share the love and hope of Jesus,” Phillips added.
A social work major from McComb, Haley Moore is eager to travel to South Asia. The ±«Óătvjunior will work at a school teaching English and build relationships with students. She prays the people of South Asia “would seek the One that satisfies my hearts.”
Twice before, Haley served on Christmas in Asia teams. The 21-year-old hopes to pursue mission work full-time following her graduation at Mississippi College.
New England’s biggest metropolis will soon be the destination for Clay Daughtry, 21, a junior from Cleveland, Alabama. He’s traveled to Boston before on Spring mission trips with a group from Pinelake Church. “Boston overall is a really great city. But it’s also a city that doesn’t have many Christians and churches,” he said. “The goal is to reach the city with the Gospel.”
