President Blake Thompson Visits with ±«ÓătvAlumni in Alabama and Georgia
Mississippi College alumni in Alabama and Georgia will soon welcome President Blake Thompson for visits to their region.
The first stop for Dr. Thompson, MC’s 20thpresident, will be at Chuck’s Fish, a popular restaurant in Tuscaloosa. The event is set for the evening of May 20. With its diverse menu of seafood, sushi, pizza and much more, the restaurant at 508 Greensboro Avenue is the perfect Alabama spot to combine good food with fellowship time.
Prospective Mississippi College students and parents are invited to join other members of the Blue & Gold family for activities in Tuscaloosa beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event at Chuck’s Fish that Monday wraps up at 8 p.m.
The cost for the Alabama gathering is $15 per person and is payable online or at the door. Dr. Thompson will discuss major developments at the Baptist-affiliated university in Clinton.
During his March 29 inauguration address, Dr. Thompson announced plans to create a new Honors College. There will be 14 freshmen to enroll at first in late August, with all their college costs covered the next four years.
The Christian university’s leader also unveiled plans to expand the institution’s international programs. To make it happen, ±«Óătvofficials created the Edward McMillan Center for Education Abroad. It is named for the late Dr. McMillan, who served as a history professor, was dean of graduate studies and established MC’s London Semester Abroad program in 1990. ±«Óătvbegan a $2 million campaign to pay for its initial launch.

In the neighboring Peach State, Georgia alumni and friends will welcome President Thompson for a June 13 event at the Vintage Pizzeria in Dunwoody. The event is scheduled for June 13.
Serving New Jersey-style pizza, salads, sandwiches and more, the Italian restaurant is located at 5510 Chamblee Dunwoody Road. Details on the cost to attend will be announced at a later date. The Thursday evening gathering kicks off three days of fun activities for ±«Óătvgraduates, family members and friends in metro Atlanta.
Plans include the 10thannual Mississippi in the Park in Atlanta on June 15. The festive Saturday event will be held in Chastain Memorial Park from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. EDT. The park is located at 140 Wieuca Road NW in Atlanta’s Buckhead area. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets. It’s an opportunity to enjoy live music, and devour delicious fried catfish or chicken from the Mississippi Delta.
The event attracts hundreds of Mississippians with strong ties to several universities across the Magnolia State. The Mississippi Society of Georgia, Inc. serves as the sponsor.
