Mississippi College Career Day Set for February 25

Mississippi College Career Day Set for February 25

Mississippi College’s 2020 Career Day may be the best one yet. Volunteers on the Clinton campus are already signing up to make the February 25 event a success.

In February 2019, representatives from a record 87 employers attended the event that put them in touch with hundreds of job-seeking ±«Óătvstudents.

Last year, Navy and Air Force recruiters signed up to join counterparts from banks, hospitals, accounting firms, school districts, television stations and government agencies.

In the new year, Taylor Ormon, associate director of the Office of Career Services, reports there are several newcomers joining the list. The latest companies signing up for the 2020 Career Day include the Eastern Alliance Insurance Group, Christian Construction, Hughes Supply and Business Communications, Inc. of Ridgeland.

Ormon is busy recruiting plenty of ±«Óătvvolunteers, including staff and students, to give her a helping hand. The four-hour event convenes at Anderson Hall on that Tuesday (from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.).

She expects there will be plenty of company officials recruiting MC’s electrical engineering students.

MC’s bachelor’s program in electrical engineering received positive national attention several months ago. In its fifth year, the ±«Óătvprogram was accredited by the ABET organization’s Engineering Accreditation Commission. It is a strong indicator that MC’s bachelor’s degree program meets the quality standards of the profession.

A key component of the 2020 Career Day lineup, Ormon said, is a new event on February 20. It is called Navigating Career Day. Students can receive resume tips, and interview advice. They will also be advised by Career Services staffers (on the third floor of Nelson Hall) what to expect on February 25.

Ormon and her colleagues are putting in the time in early 2020 to make last year’s great event even better.

“We worked hard to get more healthcare people here,” Ormon said at last year’s event. “All of the employers seemed very pleased.”

As always, Clinton Public Schools District Tim Martin and public information officer Sandi Beason circle MC’s Career Day on their calendars. The Clinton officials keep coming back for a reason.

They believe that Mississippi College is the right place to make lots of good contacts with job-seeking students. About 65 percent of the teachers and staff in the Clinton district are ±«Óătvgraduates. ±«Óătvmaintains a strong partnership with Clinton public schools year-round.

Mississippi College majors – from education to nursing, and from business to the sciences – will discover plenty of networking opportunities at the 2020 Career Day.

The ±«ÓătvOffice of Career Services is the sponsor of the annual event on the Clinton campus.
